Glossary
Who this page is for: anyone who hit a term in these docs or in a HealthLink email and wants it in one plain sentence.
Arrival order - the one queue order no algorithm touched: the order referrals reached the door. Refera’s inbox never re-sorts. See Verbatim urgency.
Chain of custody - the hash-chained, tamper-evident record of every event at the front door, from arrival to filing. See Chain of custody.
DPA (data processing agreement) - the Australian contract naming what a service provider may do with the practice’s data, its sub-processors and its obligations. The Australian instrument - a “BAA” is a US concept that does not exist here.
Draft-first - the rule that Refera prepares and a named person approves; nothing sends on its own. See Draft-first.
EDI (in the HealthLink sense) - the practice’s electronic delivery address on the HealthLink network, like a postal address for secure messages. Registration is practice-level.
HL7 v2 REF - the standard message format a referral travels in on Australian secure messaging rails, HealthLink and Medical-Objects alike. Refera’s adapter parses it.
Medical-Objects - the second Australian secure messaging rail, strongest in Queensland. Refera’s named next rail after HealthLink - not yet connected. See Medical-Objects.
Needs review - the queue state for anything capture could not confidently parse. Held visibly for a person; never dropped, never guessed at.
Negative space - the concept of practices in a catchment that never referred. It cannot be inferred from tenant arrivals alone; Refera’s corresponding view remains a design exploration outside the connected product. See Growth intelligence.
Ready-to-enter card - the field-by-field layout of an extracted referral, matched to EMR data entry with one-click copy, source excerpt and attachment metadata alongside. Refera’s alternative to write-back. Object-Locked source-archive storage is deployed; complete source retrieval and export remain unavailable until the lifecycle is proven end to end.
Shadow mode - how Refera starts: it runs beside the current process so it can be compared, without changing anything staff do. See Going live, week one.
Store-and-collect - delivery that waits in a mailbox until the recipient’s software collects it (how HealthLink works), as opposed to a live connection that can miss. See Continuity and the queue.
UNKNOWN - the closure ledger’s honest third answer: the records do not prove closure either way, so a person looks. See The closure ledger.
Verbatim urgency - urgency shown only as the referrer’s own words, quoted and attributed; never computed. The rule exists because Refera performs no clinical triage.

Thanks - that helps us make these docs better.
Refera tracks referral admin only. It does not triage patients.
Examples are fictional and contain no patient information. Practice staff approve every external action. Refera never auto-sends or independently contacts patients.
